4 die as killing spree resumes

The year started off on a peaceful note, with no murders for the first two days, but yesterday the killing spree that afflicted the country last year was resumed. Four men were killed in separate incidents, three of which police said were gang-related. Curtis “Garlic” Grant, 44, became this year’s first murder victim. Police reports state that Grant, of Rambaju Street in Aranguez, San Juan, was beaten to death after he was accused of selling stolen celery.

Soufriere residents vow not to forget police shooting!

The body of John Garvey Alcindor was laid to rest at the Soufriere Catholic cemetery last Wednesday but the hearts and minds of the Soufriere people are yet to find peace. The 29-year-old was the third life taken by police officers last year when he was shot in the neck by a member of the force. The shooting allegedly occurred after Alcindor let loose some firecrackers (match-bombs) during an entertainment activity outside the Rainforest Disco at Ravine Clear on Christmas Day. He reportedly ran from police who caught up with him and after a tussle with one officer he was shot.

Beautician dies after stabbing-Husband being guarded at hospital

A Festival City cosmetologist died yesterday morning after being stabbed on Saturday and her husband who is the suspect was hospitalized later in the day after taking a poisonous substance.
Latoya Conway Woolford, 29, of 2041 Humming Bird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt succumbed to a single stab wound just above her belly button early yesterday morning. Relatives said they received the devastating news at about 7 am from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
THE grandson of legendary former West Indies cricketer George Headley was found hanging outside his parents' house early yesterday. Police suspect that he committed suicide.

Vreed-en-Hoop woman slashed to death

A 38-year-old mother of four was brutally slashed to death by her reputed husband during a heated argument at their Lot 79 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop home last evening. Up to press time the suspect, a 28-year-old security guard was still on the run.
Dead is Pamela Beverly Mangru who was killed two days before she would have celebrated her 39th birth anniversary.
Police held the suspect’s brother, shortly after the gruesome discovery was made.
According to the information reaching Stabroek News the woman’s throat was slit and she was stabbed some thirteen times before the man made a quiet exit from the home. The incident occurred around 8 pm.
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — A powerful earthquake collapsed more than two dozen homes in Honduras and Belize early today, killing a teenager and injuring two more as terrified people ran into the streets in towns across much of Central America.
