OWEN RETIRES AFTER 45 YEARS SERVICE
Victor Owen Griffith has retired from First Group and its predecessors London Transport, after a flawless 45 years service in the bus industry.

Owen, who came to Britain from Barbados in 1962, was assigned to Stonebridge Bus Garage and worked there until it closed in 1982.   He was then transferred to Westbourne Park Bus Garage where he continued his service until his retirement.

Throughout his stint at Stonebridge, Owen became one of the most popular bus drivers on route 18 by both staff and passengers alike.

As a safe and conscientious driver, Owen will be missed by everyone who came into contact with him, and more especially his employers.

Owen plans to spend his time acquiring as much knowledge as possible in the field of IT Technology.

We at ‘presidentenquirer’, join with other past colleagues of Stonebridge Bus Garage, and wish Victor   Owen Griffith, a long and happy retirement.

Congratulations to Winston and Victor who picked up top awards at the London Bus, Tram and Dial-a-Ride Awards ceremony on 5th February.   Winston who works at Willesden Junction depot and Victor from Westbourne Park received awards from, David Brown, Managing Director Surface Transport, for their Contribution to the London Bus Industry.

Winston, who came to London from Barbados, has worked in the bus industry since 1971.   Despite working full time as a driver he gives up much of his holiday each year to seek sponsorship and business support for the Notting Hill Carnival.   In September last year he co-ordinated and organised a massively successful service of thanksgiving at Christ Church and St Stephen, Battersea to celebrate Transport for London’s 51 anniversary of Direct recruitment from the Caribbean.

Victor was also born in Barbados and was directly recruited by London transport in 1962 to work as a bus conductor.   He was promoted to driver in 1970 and driver/operator in 1988.   Victor is the most senior driver at the company’s largest depot.   He has 39 years safe driving and an excellent attendance record.   Over the past eight years he has also been a Buddy driver helping train and coach new staff.

Also nominated by the company this year were Alan Bwye, Steve Davis, Cheryl Griffith, Elzbieta Hilgier, Monoleto Hutchinson, Terry Regan and Adrian Seale.

I would like to thank, not only Winston and Victor, but all our nominees, for their hard work and professionalism during 2007 and over many years.

Adrian Jones
Managing Director.
Victor Owen Griffith Retirement Reception @ Westbourne Park Bus Garage, Thursday February 14, 2008.
A reception was held at Westbourne Park Bus Garage, to mark the occasion of Victor Owen Griffiths’ retirement after 45 years of excellent service in the bus industry.

A large gathering of friends, colleagues and family members gathered to say farewell and wish Victor a ‘happy retirement’.

Westbourne Park Bus Garage Staff Manager and Master of Ceremonies, Mr Monoleto Hutchinson, welcomed everyone, and after a synopsis of the proceedings, he introduced some of the hierarchy from First Group London, including: Mr Adrian Jones (Managing Director), Mr Jim Thorpes (General Manager, Westbourne Park Bus Garage) and specially invited guest from Transport for London, Mr Peter Henley, who were there to pay homage to Mr Victor Owen Griffith for his 45 years of exemplary service to the bus industry.

Mr Adrian Jones, Managing director of first Group London, spoke glowingly about Mr Griffiths’ remarkable record with First Group London and its predecessor, London Transport; he left everyone in awe at Victor’s remarkable achievement over those 45 years.

Mr Peter Henley (Transport for London) echoed similar sentiments and presented Mr Griffith with a ‘Badge and Certificate’ to commemorate 45 years service.

Mr Jim Thorpes, (General Manager, Westbourne Park Bus Garage) presented Victor with a ‘Retirement Certificate’.

Mr Griffith thanked everyone for being so gracious and generous in their remarks and pledged, “If I had my life to live over again, I’ll do it the same way”.   Victor also gave special thanks to; Mrs Elaine Moore (Customer Service Department, Westbourne Park Bus Garage), for coordinating the buffet.

How can anyone be so consistently dedicated for so long is absolutely amazing.   Victor’s legacy should serve as a benchmark for all future recruits to the bus industry.

LONDON
Well Done Hugh Clarke
Friday November 21, 2008:

A career spanning 30 years in the Bus Industry has come to an end for Mr Hugh Clarke as he graciously retired from First Group and its predecessor London Transport.

In the opening remarks, Westbourne Park Depot General Manger James Thorpe, lauded Hugh Clarke for his “exemplary service to the bus industry, his outstanding safe driving record, and is a fine example to new recruits”. Hugh Clarke immigrated to Britain from Jamaica in 1962 and later joined West Midland Cooperation Transport as a bus driver in 1964.

In 1978 Hugh joined London Transport and worked at Middle Row Garage until its closure in 1981. All staff was then transferred to Westbourne Park bus depot where Hugh continued his service for a further 27 years until his retirement.

Hugh thanked Management and staff for their cooperation, support and encouragement over the years, suffice to say without that; “I don’t think I would have made it”.

The presentation party included: James Thorpe, General Manager, Martin Moran, Operations Manager, Monoleto Hutchison, Staff Manager and Master of Ceremonies.

Catering for the occasion was entrusted to Ms Elaine Moore.

Presidentenquirer congratulates Mr Hugh Clarke for his longevity in the Bus Industry and wish him a long, happy retirement.
