Notting Hill Carnival 2009
LONDON – Notting Hill
Successful, Incident-free, But No Media Coverage
Tuesday September 1, 2009:

Europe’s Largest Street Festival, Notting Hill Carnival 2009 enjoyed its first incident-free event for many years with little or no violence of any kind which seemed to have plagued this annual event. Despite this year’s early start there was a constant flow of people converging in the area, however by late afternoon the crowd swelled to about the same as last year’s attendance. As the sweet sounds of socalypso reverberated around Notting Hill, masqueraders and revellers alike were gyrating behind each float along the route. The violence normally associated with this even was missing and it is difficult to comprehend why there was no coverage by the news media, Radio & TV in particular, they took a stance and did not mention one IOTA about Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s Largest Street Festival. One wonders if these media moguls are only interested to give coverage to the event if or only when violence is associated with it.

Question: Why no media coverage; Answer: The mind boggles.

Kudos to the Carnival Committee, Organizers and Stewards for the successful staging of this year’s festival, and to all those who participated and attended, you’ve certainly played your part.

LONDON – Notting Hill:
LOWER IN NUMBER, HIGHER IN ENERGY:
Tuesday August 26, 2008:

This year’s Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s Largest Street Festival, was a TROUBE-FREE event according to sources. Sources believe this was due to the proactive approach by the Metropolitan Police to seek out the trouble makers and kept them away from the area. The Mets’ action significantly reduced the ugly violence of bygone years. Unfortunately the crime, violence and general disturbances associated with large gatherings, Carnival in particular, tend to give this festival a negative rating; meanwhile the Metropolitan Police and the Organization Committee of the Notting Hill Carnival should be congratulated for a successful Carnival. An estimated ONE MILLION people converged on the streets of Notting Hill, and although the turnout was lower in number than the previous year and free of any major disturbances, everyone was higher in energy as revellers gyrated to the pulsating beat of the latest in Calypso and Soca. The atmosphere in the entire Notting Hill area was one of merriment, friendship and togetherness.
